Major Online Photo Printer Opts for (2) Custom Ibis Smart Binder Solutions

Best Graphics, Ibis Chosen as Provider of (2) New, Custom Ibis Smart Binder Systems –

Best Graphics (WI), the North American Distributor and post-Sales Service & Parts support for Ibis Smart Binders, has been awarded a (2) machine order from a major online photobook producer. The system will help streamline the manufacturing of digitally printed material into personalized, variable page count booklets.

The Ibis will be integrated behind an Unwinder and Web Cutter. Best Graphics and Ibis will collect the 1-up, wide web stream and separate it into a 2-up stream to better suit the small format booklets. Via the Ibis Smart Binder’s TUSDC-100 module, which changes the direction of the (2) sheets, and the 2D Matrix Barcode Reader, 4-page sheets arrive into the scoring section in sequence (to build a personalized booklet with varying page counts and specific data).

Through the use of the CFI-102 Feeder each booklet will include a cover. Maintaining the covers will be seamless due to the CAL-102 automatic cover loader option the printer elected.

After a booklet’s “set” has been matched with a cover, the book will move through the Smart Binder’s Hohner wire stitch heads or our patented ISG-100 spine gluing section to be finished. Thereafter, the Smart Binder’s three knife trimmer section will engage (while waste scrap is discharged via the waste conveyor system).

Maintaining 100% booklet integrity, its important to note the Smart Binder ejects all “bad books” and logs the data into the intelligent operator touch screen (where it can later be exported and sent back to pre-press, or management for review).

With a 1-up cycle speed of 7,000 booklets per hour (or 14,000 per hour with our option center knife kit), Ibis Smart Binder HS Plus models can be pursued in a variety of configurations. For example, the above layout also includes a SB-097 hybrid Pile Feeder/Transport section that the purchaser will use for occasional flat sheet booklet runs (loaded from a pallet). In the event the Unwinder/Web Cutter is in use, the SB-097 is “disengaged” and acts as a transport bridge for 4-page sheets to pass through before entering the Smart Binder’s scoring/booklet creation area.

This printer will be receiving (1) system at their mid-Atlantic facilities and (1) system at their Midwest operations. Both will be integrated with backend, high speed Bell & Howell Inserting equipment.

New Jersey Digital Printer Purchases Laminator, Coater, Business Card Slitter from Best Graphics

Leading East Coast Digital Print Facility Installs (3) New Finishing Machines via Best Graphics, Increases Productivity –

Best Graphics (Waukesha, WI) completes the sale, and installation of three new machines at North Jersey Digital Print facility. The equipment replaces an outdated Film Laminator, U.V. Coater and Business Card Slitter.

Our Italian line of high speed Ecosystem single sided Film Laminators provide Digital Printers the robust design (reliability), and quick makereadies they need for quick turn around jobs. Best Graphics installed one of our Quick 76 therm-based Film Laminators with speeds in excess of 160 feet/min., and 30 x 41″ maximum size formats.

For this New Jersey’s client who prefer U.V. and aqueous coating over film lamination, our Kompac EZ Koat 30 model will be utilized. Much like our Ecosystem Film Laminators, our Kompac line of Coaters are built to last, perform as required, and widely recognized as the premier manufacturer in the market space. Best Graphics’ Kompac EZ Koat 30 is a flood coater that supports up to 30.5″ wide sheets, requires less than (5) minutes to makeready, and is compact in footprint (a key selling feature in the expensive New Jersey-New York real estate market). Learn more about Ecosystem Film Laminators HERE.

The Them-O-Type Zip TS2L was the third machine sold, installed by Best Graphics’ Service Technicians. Made in the U.S.A., Therm-O-Type Slitter/Cutter/Creasers are know to be faster, and heavier duty than the Duplo DC-745 Digital Finishing system it replaced. Learn more about Kompac Coaters HERE.

All machines included delivery, install, operator training and have extended parts & labor warranties carried out by Best Graphics’ post-Sales Service & Parts Department.Learn more about Therm-O-Type Digital Finishing equipment HERE.

Ibis Variable Data, Variable Page Count Saddle Stitcher Installation In California

Best Graphics, Ibis’ North American Distributor, Install an Ibis Smart-binder 2 Saddle Stitcher for Variable Data, Variable Page Count Bookletmaking –

Best Graphics (WI) have secured a Smart-binder SB 2 Saddle Stitcher order from a large, Direct Mail-Commerail Printer in the state of California. The unit will be run “near line” behind a Hunkeler unwinder, sheeter, and the first-of-its-kind California-based HP PageWide web press.

Best Graphics’ Ibis Smart-binder 2 Variable Page Count Saddle Stitcher

Taking rolls, printed on a HP PageWide T240 digital web press, the Hunkeler unwinder will feed a continuous roll of paper into the Hunkeler sheeter, which separates the paper into individual, 4-page signatures before arrival into the Ibis Smart-binder 2. Use of the Hewlett Packard PageWide digital press allows for variable data to be applied to each 4-page signature as needed, ultimately customizing each booklet stitched.

Printed on each individual 4-page signature is a 2D, a 3 to 9, or comparable barcode that is read by cameras, which reverts back to the Ibis’ central hub, ultimately ensuring 100% accurate production. When the appropriate amount of 4-pagers required for one personalized booklet is complete, the collated set is released, a cover is matched, and the booklet is saddle stitched and trimmed. Again, every booklet is unique: each page can retain unique data that is highly personalized and be variable in page count from the booklet produced before, or after it!

This Ibis Smart-binder 2 installed in California utilizes Hohner stitch heads for booklet-making, and is prepared for future upgrades to accept our patented, spine gluing technology (SB 3). This style of booklet making is preferred by direct mail, and mail house operations that frequently insert the piece alongside other collated material. Existing Smart-binder 3 users, with the patented spine glue capabilities, suggest these booklets lay flatter, and insert more easily than stitched booklets, which have more “pillow” in them.

Best Graphics, in conjunction with Ibis, will handle the California installation, training and post-Sales service & parts warranty.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with a top 50 global leader in HP productivity, and look forward to growing their direct mail customer engagement.

Best Graphics Beats Out Muller Martini for Large, East Coast Book Bindery’s Perfect Binder Business

Best Graphics and Wohlenberg Answer the High Production, Short Run Perfect Binder Conundrum –

Best Graphics, Wohlenberg’s North American Sales Agents

Best Graphics Group (Milwaukee, WI) were recently onsite, alongside our German Wohlenberg colleagues, at one of the Northeast’s largest Book Publishers overseeing our recently installed Wohlenberg Quickbinder Perfect Binder inline with a Wohlenberg Trim-tec 60e automated Three Knife Trimmer, book transfer conveyance, and a Busch Waste Scap Removal system.

Running alongside legacy, full system Kolbus Perfect Binders, and Muller Martini Perfect Binders, Best Graphics’ compact footprint, 2,000/Hr. Wohlenberg Quickbinder is the reliable solution large Book Binderies depend on for second edition re-prints, “one off samples,” or 8-10,000 perfect bound book runs that would require a plant to otherwise “break in” to a full system run.

Manufactured with the same principles of a our larger, full system Wohlenberg Perfect Binders with Gathering Stations, our handfed Wohlenberg Quickbinder is a robust, well constructed 15 – 20 – 25 year asset. When compared to Duplo, Horizon and Bourg Perfect Binders, designed for the digital market with a 3 – 5 – 7 year asset, Wohlenberg’s prove their meddle: (5) clamps, dual spine prep station, extra long 17″ spine length capabilities, 2.75″ max. thicknesses, heavy-duty, dual scoring shafts, rotary cover feeder, an adjustable “nip” section, EVA hotmelt and PUR spine glue options, and a gentle, laydown discharge.

The machine is also extremely user friendly: our large Navigator touch screen control actuates all direct motor drives for a tool-less changeover from one book size format to another. With the growth of the digital print market, and book runs being  reduced to the “just in time (JIT)” inventory model, jumping from job-to-job in moments, yet delivering a square back book perceived as being done on a full system Perfect Binder gives you a leg up on the competition.

Looking to differentiate yourself? Wohlenberg’s focus on innovation, and differentiaiton is a key driver in machine sales: Wohlenberg Quickbinders, 2,000 per hour handfed machines, have the ability to inline gauze. They also have “Delta 10” clamping technology to accept variable book thickness work one behind another!

When it came to Three Knife Trimmers, Best Graphics’ client recognized the storied history Wohlenberg have built. Their name is synonymous with Three Knife Trimmers, and in fact, at one point in their manufacturing career, Wohlenberg were actually producing Three Knife Trimmers for Kolbus, and Muller Martini Perfect Binding lines!!

Best Graphics’ configured this system with a Wohlenberg Trim-tem 60e automated Three Knife Trimmer, our 3,600 cycle per hour machine. Like our Quickbinder Perfect Binder, the Trim-tec 60e is easily operated by a large Navigator color touch screen where all book measurement are input. Set up is tool-less, and all drives adjust automatically.

Upon completion of this East Coast Printer’s “nickel tour,” the company’s management staff said they’d made the right long-term decision when comparing Best Graphics Quickbinder with Muller Martini’s Vareo Binder, and would welcome future visitors for machine demonstrations.

With delivery, installation, training and a 24-month system warranty, Best Graphics and this East Coast Book Printer are well on their way to a long, formidable partnership.

. . . Best Graphics. Wohlenberg. Book smart!
